2016 Spirit of Hope Honoree
Michael was born and raised in Owatonna, MN, and also spent part of his grade school years in Indianapolis, IN. After graduating from Saint Thomas University, he was a Certified Public Accountant in Minneapolis. He specialized in auditing and consulting for healthcare organizations, serving clients in many parts of the country.
In 1984, Mike and his family moved to Marshfield when he was appointed VP-Finance and CFO at Ministry Saint Joseph’s Hospital. A few years later, he was named Executive Vice President. He was appointed President & CEO of the hospital in 1993. He has served on the boards of directors of many community organizations. Now retired, Mike and his wife, Anne, enjoy spending more time with their children and grandchildren, traveling, golfing and sailing in the Apostle Islands. They have 3 children and 5 grandchildren to keep them busy.
Mike’s involvement with the Marshfield Hope Lodge started with the initial discussions with American Cancer Society leadership about bringing the first Hope Lodge in Wisconsin to Marshfield. It included the planning, fundraising and building design and later volunteering there. He has served on the Hope Lodge Advisory Committee for 13 years and serves as Chair. He has also been actively involved in the Vita Bella Gala steering committee for the past 7 years, including being the Gala Chair in 2012.
